Your Cat Will Have Hours of Fun with this Ripple Rug
It is a bit expensive to be honest but when I thought about buying a box toy with holes in it ($22) that I know they will bore with fast, this rug made sense. Whether hiding inside to play by themselves, the other cats, or with toys, or just sleeping on top of it, they seem to have a good time. There has not been a day since I purchased it where each and every cat has not at some point in the day been on or in it and we have a household full of toys and cat trees so it’s not like this is the only thing they’ve got to play with which really says something about the simplicity of this idea being such a big hit with them.
This is such a great design and my 9 month old kitten and 6 year old cat just love playing with it. They will carry little cat toys from around the house and place them in the mat in order to play with them. The cats (I have a large tabby and a 5 mo old kitten) did like it, however it has a tendency to get flattened pretty quick once they started playing on it, so I was constantly trying to reconfigure it and prop it up so they could use as tunnels, etc. Using it with a play wand or the toy mice seems to work great to keep them occupied for as long as needed, then they use it as a place to sleep. Our kitten loved playing with his new mat…he gets so excited jumping in and out the holes and pawing anyone who gets to close to him.
So the first time I set this up, I wondered if I had wasted my money on another cat thing that I would be giving away, BUT they all love it!!! We can arrange the top in different ways so it can be like a cave or tunnel – with holes of varying sizes for peeking out, putting a paw out to grab a toy, or jumping out of to surprise our other cat. Before we got the Ripple Rug, my mom thought my cats were bored couch potatoes who didn’t like to play anymore. I bought this rug about a month ago and my cat spends most of her time lying on top of it or playing with her toys on the rug. This rug is great for cats who like to scratch and play with textured surfaces or hiding their toys in the holes.
The Ripple Rug – Cat Activity Play Mat – Made in USA – Fun Interactive Play – Training – Scratching – Thermal Base – Multi Use Habitat Bed Mat I agree with another reviewer that the price may make you think twice about purchasing the Ripple Rug. But if your cat likes to chase “mice” under rugs, blankets, etc., kitty is bound to find this rug great fun. The rug was a first toy she really started playing with, and every night before bed i hide toys and food for the cat inside, and in the morning i find her either destroying it or camping inside.
Update: Theough play and food my cat transitioned from shy to friendly, and she loved her mat so much I bought an extra one for another room. My six-year-old cat loves climbing through the holes and plays like a kitten. Our cats love their ripple rug and use it to play and nap! I normally have a hard time finding toys that he will stay interested in for a long time but I have had the Ripple Rug for a couple months and he plays in it every single day. She loves to put her toys in there and bat them around through the holes, hide inside and launch surprise attacks when I walk by, and nap in it as a comfortable and safe space to rest. My 10 y.o. cat only needs to watch wand toys pop out from beneath the layers & he goes NUTS playing ala “Whack-a-Molee” – when the kitten LETS HIM!!
My cats LOVE the Ripple Rug. I’m not kidding when I say they are gleeful toy searching and burrowing on the mat. It is a little on the pricey side (as cat toys go), but I feel that I will get a lot of use out of it for many years, so I think it’s definitely worth the price. She loves getting inside an acts like she’s hiding while the various holes provide openings she can stick a paw through to try to grab her wand toy I flip around it. My cat loves rolling, hiding and scratching this rug! He hides inside the tunnels, jumps in and out of the holes, and brings his toys in to play.
My cat LOVES the Ripple Rug. It’s easily his favorite toy, better than his kitty condo and better than anything in the toy bin. My cat was able to get his head through the second smallest hole and got stuck, which led to him streaming in a panic across the house with the now un-velcroed top rug behind him like a cape. Maine Coon, is not one for much activity, but he loves his Ripple Rug and plays on, through, and under it several times a day. My cats go crazy randomly just attacking the holes in this rug, and when you add a toy (my favorite is a feather duster) and poke it through the holes chaos of a great variety ensues. We have had five different cats play with this rug and all five of them loved it for various reasons!
I adjust it the way I want and the cat dives in and I roll balls in for her to play with or take her feather toy and glide it by a hole for her to reach out and snag. I would definitely recommend this for cats who love to play hide and seek! You can configure it so many different ways that it always feels like a new toy, and not to mention cats love to scratch on it! My cats both sleep, scratch, play, and sit on this thing all the time, every day lol. My kitties both loved it right away and use it in different ways, sometimes playing or hiding and sometimes scratching! The ripple rug is one of the best cat toys I’ve ever bought.
MY once quieter cat now wakes me up out of my sleep with the most obnoxious yowls, holding the feather toy that she likes to incorporate into the ripple rug game. I can’t tell you how much my two new rescued kittens love the Ripple Rug, they immediately knew how to play in it. They have many other toys (including a tunnel that I purchased through Amazon and reviewed as well, they absolutely love it too) but in the few days that we’ve had the Ripple Rug, it’s really become their favorite. Our cat loves to take her daily nap on the rug, then get my dog to play hide&seek after- it’s the cutest! I have had the Ripple Rug for about a month now, and it is still the most favorite toy for all 5 of my cats (all between 5-7 years of age).
It’s so much fun to watch him play and hunt for is little toys inside the tunnels and holes. We have had them and the Ripple Rug for 5 weeks and not only do the kittens love it, we are so entertained by watching them play in this the other entertainment devices in our home like the TV are feeling ignored. Every one of my cats lays on it or in it or plays with the toys I hide inside every day. They love playing with their toys on and inside the rug. We play hide and go seek with a feather toy or a string ball on the ripple rug every day! After having the ripple rug in our house for a month, we think it’s one of the best items we ever bought for our cats. My girl kitty immediately brought over her favorite toy and spent quite a bit of time playing and scratching the mat. Our cat absolutely loves the rug and it makes it fun for us to play too.
The top of the rug can velcro into any number of ways onto the bottom half, creating all kinds of shapes, and my cat loves hiding inside and exploring different tunnels. I love cat toys that encourage creative play and foster intellectual stimulation and the ripple rug is just that! The cats didn’t find the Ripple Rug intimidating and explored it on their own, hid in the tunnels, hunted for each other/treats, played with a wand toy as the feathers peeked out of the various holes (…and played with the packaging paper and in the cardboard box it came in, of course) the very first day it arrived. Our cats love playing on the rug and sleeping on it.
They like to paw at each other through the holes, play with toys in it while they’re covered by the top piece, and they love to simply just lay on it, too. That being said, my cat absolutely loves the ripple rug and it was a great purchase. Like a lot of other people who purchase a Ripple Rug, I was not even able to get it set up for the first time without the cats jumping all over it. My human reason for the deduction is that the top rug with holes has lost all of its stiffness, so it is this floppy second rug that just sits all tangled up without giving any dimensional space for the cats to use (like others have complained about)
It doesn’t hold its shape so that cats can’t play with it as it is intended (and, I know they LOVED THE BONKERS OUT OF IT when it had the ability to hold a shape–see the rest of my original post for that) I tried washing it because some other customers said that washing it gave it a little more of the original hold/shape. My cat loves it when we place toys in the holes, and he runs through it to get to them. Our cats love it: they play hide and seek, sleep or bring their toys in the cave.
This rug is a quality product that all 3 of my cats love to play with. The Ripple Rug is THE BEST cat toy I’ve ever purchased. The cats spend most of their time playing with the toys I hide inside. My cat loves hunting for his toys in the dark “tunnels” in the Ripple Rug as well as sleeping on top of the rug. My cat took her time deciding to to play on her Ripple Rug, but once she started, it’s a favorite part of her day. My cat doesn’t get excited by many toys, but she loves her Ripple Rug!
Sometimes we’ve attached one of our cat tunnels to an opening to expand the fun, but they seem to like the Ripple Rug best by itself. I put down the rug and put a few toys inside and my cat immediately ran over and started playing. He gets bored with a lot of toys but he always wants to play in (or just sleep on) his ripple rug. My cat loves hiding out in this rug. My kitty loves to play and hide in this rug. The different size holes in the rug make it fun for the cat to climb through or stick her paw through to try and get us or the toys we play with her with. Our cat loves to play with his new rug! My kitties love the ripple rug and play on and under nearly every day. Our cats love this play rug. Our cats love this play rug.
